Art You Can Carry: Limited Edition Totes just in time for the Holidays

Last year we played a little with creating tote bags and bring a little bit of cheer to the streets. They really hit a mark and the few we created were gone in the blink of an eye. And so here is my Art that you can Carry...

Before I share a bit more about each bag, I want to go through our journey to make them. To pick the images, to think about labels, and even about the logo.
From idea to art you can carry
We designed our original tote bag online, and it looked pretty good. But as we set out to create these bags I wanted to do something more local and start to investigate eco friendliness and more things.
As luck would have it, one of my dear friends started a new venture called Mulberry Design & Print. The first thing we worked on are these very cool hoodies which my daughter designed and created.

We only have one of each left, so order them from the store (blue hoodie | bone hoodie) if you need (yet another) a cool artsy gift!

After the hoodie success, we set to work on the next project - tote bags. We looked at a ton of bags, found some interesting designs and chose some art work. But we didn't end there, and what follows was a bit of a marketing class for designing apparel and tote bags.
First, who knew that you need labels and logos? Not me... and so we set of to rethink our bags with creative guidance and input from Tannaz and Richard at Mulberry. And once we decided to do a logo that differs from my art venture, we quickly decided to use the logo as a differentiator of the design.

With this the bags - the limited edition series that is - now are part of something new. Something exciting that hopefully will expand into a series of interesting ways to show my art or to even create interesting things for wearable art. Who knows? All because we spent some time actually brainstorming with a group of creatives.
So what did we create? Well, here we go...
Art Tote - Piggy in Holland
Of course I had to put Piggy on the tote bags! And this is the one we started with. Let's find a fun bag that can carry Piggy all over the world in her wooden shoes. You can see a bunch more pictures of the bag in the store here. For the details, it is 10"W x 8"H x 5"D and made from 100% - 10oz cotton.

This small tote packs a punch. Or, maybe you can pack a punch into it? While it is small and cute, it does hold quite a lot of stuff. You could even consider it an ideal gift bag that enhances that gift you give and reduces the waste of yet another bunch of packing paper.
Art tote - Piggy's Escape
This one is one of many people's favorite Piggy painting... and with some creative brainstorming and digital wizardry, we ended up with Piggy really escaping... Piggy is almost floating off the bag!

This is a medium sized tote bag, measuring 12"W x 12"H x 7.75"D and made of the same 10oz 100% cotton canvas material. It has 19" handles so slings nicely over your shoulder and because the bag folds out, that almost 8" can hold a lot of things. It likely fitst your lovely iPad or MacBook. Get it from the store here.
Both these bags are marked with the faux leather embossed logo and are marked as part of Series 1 inside the bag. Each of these (Piggy in Holland and Piggy's Escape) runs a limited edition of 12 bags within this Series 1.

COD x Just been there
But wait, there is more... Over the past 2 years or so, my art has been featured on a travel blog called Just been there. Many of my water colors are from places on that blog, and so, we figured, lets put the blog logo on a bag and create a fun collaboration where my art and the blog go around the world.

This is a pretty big tote, measuring 15"W x 15"H x 3"D with 22' handles. A big bag for big things... The link to the store is right here if you like this one. I personally like the label we created, and it has a QR code for the blog so you can share that when people comment on how cool your tote is!
There you are. From Studio to Street, Limited Edition Art Totes just in time for the holidays!
Until next time,
Christine
